Halloween is finally here, and for many, the holiday looks a little different this year. Families all over our community are planning the safest possible trick-or-treating experience for their little ones, and McGavock Nissan is here to help! Check out some of our best tips for trick-or-treating safely this Halloween.
1.) Keep a safe distance
When trick-or-treating with your kids, keep in mind the importance of keeping a safe distance of at least 6 feet away from others. Keeping this distance minimizes the risk of coming in contact with any germs at any point and time.
2.) Wear a mask if you feel it’s necessary
If you or your child are not already wearing some kind of Halloween mask, we recommend wearing a mask when coming in contact with other people (accepting candy at your neighbor’s door, talking with friends and other parents, etc.) to keep yourself and others safe.
3.) Keep hand sanitizer handy
Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with you to disinfect your hands between ringing doorbells or touching door handles. Preventing the spread of germs to your hands will further prevent the spread of those germs to your body.
4.) Trick-or-Treat from your car
Ask your neighbors if they’ve considered giving out candy to trick-or-treaters in their vehicles this Halloween. This is a safe, fun way to get your candy fix without risking catching any illnesses. Apps like NextDoor allow people in your neighborhood to network with each other, so this would be a great opportunity to organize a drive-thru trick-or-treat this Halloween!
We hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween! Feel free to share your Halloween photos with us on our Facebook page!

Brakes are quite possibly the most important component of any vehicle, and our technicians take great care when replacing or adjusting your brake pads and rotors. Be sure to refer to your owner’s manual or ask a service technician how often you should replace your brake pads on your specific vehicle.
Your exhaust and muffler regulate gas output and maintain your fuel efficiency. Your vehicle’s inspection is an annual maintenance task that our technicians perform to make sure everything in your vehicle is working properly, and to remain in compliance with Texas law. This process involves testing main car systems like brakes, suspension, lights and steering, as well as emission and presence of mandatory equipment. Give us a call to get your vehicle inspected today!
A transmission flush, similar to a coolant flush, replaces old transmission fluid with fresh fluid. This task is preventative maintenance that ensures your transmission is running optimally. Check your vehicle’s owner manual or give us a call to learn more about when a transmission flush is needed in your specific vehicle.
The proper alignment of your vehicle is crucial for your safety and the performance of your car on the road. Our service technicians can make adjustments to the front alignment of your vehicle as needed to ensure that everything is working properly. Often, a front-end alignment is recommended when you get new tires installed.
You all know Mac, the McGavock mascot, but do you know the man behind the frog? Brandon Buzzank wears the mascot costume with pride, and his journey with the McGavocks is quite a unique one. One day while Brandon was getting his car serviced at the Lubbock dealership, he decided to help out the other customers by handing out popcorn and waters. Brent McGavock saw what Brandon was doing and hired him on the spot. Brandon was diagnosed with ASD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Brent had just the job for Brandon, and he’s made kids and adults alike smile ever since. Brandon loves wearing the mascot costume and welcoming customers in the dealership during events or just a typical day. Brandon isn’t just a professional mascot, he also created ways to make the car shopping process faster and more efficient. Have you noticed the barcode stickers on the front of our vehicles? If you scan that barcode on your phone, it will direct you straight to the website with all the information on that particular vehicle.
Now, Brandon’s story has an even larger platform. Local news anchor, Karin McCay wrote a children’s book about Brandon and how he excels at everything he does while living life with ASD. This book teaches kids that different is special, and we all have that one talent that makes us stand out above the rest. The book is not available yet, but it’s coming soon and we’ll update everyone when it becomes available!
Change the Filters in your Air Vents While Changing the Filters on Your Summer Selfie
The age of the selfie has drastically re-defined the term “filter,” and while we use our fair share of cool and unique filters, we always want to remind our customers to change their air filters in their vehicles. Our service department recommends owners change their air filters every 15-30,000 miles, depending on their driving habits. City driving does not cause as much pollutant intake as country driving, so be sure to keep that in mind when considering a filter change. Contact our service department (link this phrase to our service page) today for more information on how to change your specific vehicle’s air filters, or you can book an appointment with one of our service technicians before your next Summer road trip!
Rotate Before You Roll Out
We recommend you rotate your tires every six months or 6,000 to 8,000 miles to prevent blowouts and maintain steady wear on your tread. A good way to remember when it’s time to get the tires rotated is to get it done every other oil change.
Maintain Your Inspection for Everyone’s Protection
Getting your vehicle inspected is not only the law, but it ensures that your car is in the best possible shape for everything from a trip to the grocery store to a trip across the country. Inspecting elements like fluid levels, headlight function, brake response and more will keep your car safe for you and everyone else on the road.

Our many years of experience and quality customer service has allowed us to travel like those West Texas Tumbleweeds and expand our dealership locations to Amarillo, Abilene, and most recently, San Marcos.
